JOSEPH L. PHELPS, III
Joseph L. Phelps III ("Joe"), a native of Southeast Georgia, is a partner in the law
firm of Smith and Phelps located in Jesup, Georgia. Mr. Phelps has extensive experience
in numerous types of litigation including commercial, personal injury, domestic relations
and criminal defense at both the trial and appellate level.

Mr. Phelps is admitted to practice law in all state courts in Georgia including the
Court of Appeals of Georgia and the Supreme Court of Georgia. In addition, Mr. Phelps
is admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Southern District of
Georgia.
Mr. Phelps earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Georgia School of
Law in 2000 and a Bachelor of Business Administration, cum laude, from the University
of Georgia in 1997.
Joe has served as Municipal Court Judge for the City of Jesup since 2007, and he
also serves as General Counsel of the Jesup Housing Authority.
Mr. Phelps has served as Treasurer of the Jesup Bar Association and is a past
Exalted Ruler of Jesup Lodge Number 2133 of the Benevolent and Protective Order of
Elks. He is also a member of the Georgia Municipal Court Judge's Council.
Mr. Phelps is married to Meridith Jill Phelps and is a member of the Jesup First
United Methodist
Church where he served on the Staff Parish Relations Committee from
2007-2010. He and Meridith have one son, Griffin.
